Digital Climate Strike - Calgary

  • 1780

To keep the climate action conversation going, we have decided to go online!

To participate in our digital protests, take a photo of yourself with your sign and you can either:

1. Post it to your social media, tag us on Facebook, Twitter or
Instagram and use the hashtag and
online

2. Email or DM us your photo, let us know if you would like us to
tag your social media handle, and get featured on our pages!

We also encourage participants to tag their relevant government officials (MLA's / Mayor / Premier / Prime Minister) to spread the word! You can also challenge friends, family or coworkers to participate by tagging them in your photos as well!

Fridays for Future Calgary is demanding that our governments implement aggressive climate action policies, like a Green New Deal, to promote a sustainable economy and future. More information on the Green New Deal can be found here: https://www.calgarygreennewdeal.ca/

We encourage participants to have personalized signs that address their concerns, while also promoting solutions and change. We do not encourage signs promoting hateful or ignorant messaging.

The Blackfoot, Dene and Stoney people, have been here long before Alberta and Canada were established. Our languages, culture, traditions, civil laws precede Colonization. Our history with this land predates 152 years.
Moh’kinsstis (point to elbow) is the Blackfoot name for Calgary and it has many other names in different Indigenous languages. Calgary is on the traditional lands of the Blackfoot Confederacy which consists of Piikani, Siksika, Kainai in Canada, and with the Blackfeet Nation south of the imposed US/Cdn border. In 1877, Treaty 7 was signed with the Blackfoot Confederacy, the Tsuut’ina, and Stoney Nations of the Chiniki, Wesley and Bearspaw Nations. Calgary is also home of Mètis, Inuit and First Nations, status & non from all across Turtle Island.
