Join the Mayday Space crew for a “Virtual Rally & Workers’ Power Celebration” to mark our namesake holiday and uplift collective action as the only real solution to the multiple planetary crises we all face.

We’ll kick off by exploring the day’s historic significance with Donna T. Haverty-Stacks, author of “America’s Forgotten Holiday: May Day and Nationalism, 1867-1960”. Next, we’ll hear from workers on the frontlines fighting for rights, dignity and basic safety protection on the job... including leaders from the Workers Justice Project - Proyecto Justicia Laboral, Communication Workers of America, NYC Network of Worker Cooperatives, Amazonians United New York City and a nurse activist from Wyckoff Hospital around the corner from Mayday 👩🏽‍⚕️👷🏿‍♂️🧑🏼‍🔧🧑🏾‍🌾

At 7pm we’ll join in the citywide applause/cacerolazo to honor and demand justice for “essential workers” by making noise, putting up signs in our windows, and showing solidarity while social distancing 👏🏾🛎

As a day of resistance, we’ll then get a quick report back from the intersectional #Recovery4All Pots and Pans to Demand Government Action and hear from Mi Casa No Es Su Casa: Illumination Against Gentrification on Bushwick rent strikes and the release of the Housing Justice for All toolkit for tenants who can’t pay rent: bit.ly/RentStrikeNY. We'll close out with rad musical performances by Immortal Technique and Rebel Diaz! 🎤🔥

ABOUT MAYDAY:
Mayday Space is a collectively-managed organizing and social hub for grassroots groups, neighborhood residents, artists and activists from across NYC (and beyond!) to hold classes, training, meetings, film screenings, retreats, conferences, art builds, and all-ages events on an affordable sliding scale. While our space is closed for events due to the COVID-19 crisis, we’re offering on-line programming, running a Bushwick food distribution hub, and supporting mutual aid coordination citywide. Únase al equipo de Mayday Space para una "Manifestación virtual y celebración del poder de lxs trabajadorxs" para conmemorar nuestro feriado homónimo y para elevar la acción colectiva como la única solución real a las múltiples crisis planetarias que enfrentamos.

Comenzaremos por explorar el significado histórico del día con Donna T. Haverty-Stacks, autora de "America's Forgotten Holiday: May Day and Nationalism, 1867-1960." Cerraremos con unas actuaciones musicalas radical de los raperos Immortal Technique y Rebel Diaz!

Mayday Space es un centro social organizado colectivamente para grupos de base, residentes del barrio, artistas y activistas de toda Nueva York (¡y más allá!) para ofrecer clases, capacitación, reuniones, proyecciones de películas, retiros, conferencias, obras de arte y eventos para gente todas las edades, siempre con escala móvil.
