Black Lives Matter Solidarity Event

  • 3238

This 4th of July we'll be recognizing & celebrating the experiences & existence of young African American girls & women. This year we

#BlackLivesMatter events continue around our nation. We are welcoming all our siblings & allies in the LGBTQ community who, despite Pride being effectively cancelled due to COVID are rallying in support & solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement around the country.

Please join us for a peaceful & family friendly celebration and a demand that our country take the steps necessary for real against discrimination. Bring your sidewalk chalk & your creativity as we transform the street in front of the Capitol into a community mural in support of #BLM

We will again be providing water to participants, handing out masks & encouraging social distancing. We will ensure those who cannot participate in person can help from home & the car march *UPDATE* There will be no formal car march due to opposition groups who will be protesting nearby /update Please follow public health guidelines as well as your personal doctors recommendations.

This event will feature speeches, songs, dance performances & more. Come join us in this reclamation of patriotism by those oppressed so long. Together we will rise up, united, and July 4th 2020 will again have meaning as a day of Freedom for all Americans. Freedom from oppression, freedom from the systemic racism we're fighting to dismantle.

$ is needed for the sound equipment & generator & other supplies.

(Salem Community Organizers was founded in the summer of 2018 after the successful Families Belong Together rally at the capitol. Since that time we have organized & rallied on a number of issues as well as worked hard to amplify the voices of candidates & causes we believe in. A place where new activists & candidates can connect with veteran activists & officials to join forces in protecting & promoting civil rights for all.)
We will be hearing from POC youth in our community. If you would like to submit a speech from your child to give please reach out.

We seek to create a safe place for all people to come together to demand accountability & reforms to put an end to
