The Climate of the Commonwealth & a Federal Green Stimulus

  • 4293

Join us to talk about the state of Massachusetts climate politics and what a federal Green Stimulus would mean as we restructure the economy after the coronavirus pandemic clears.

Afterward, at 8 PM, we will engage in a series of political actions we can all take together.

The Climate of the Commonwealth:
In this presentation, Vick Mohanka, Clean Energy Organizer with Clean Water Action, will cover the current climate and environmental justice policy landscape in Massachusetts. We will try to address the greater context and pending legislation, including proposals by legislative leadership and bills supported by the environmental community.

What is a Green Stimulus?:
There are many intersections between the coronavirus and climate crisis: both are planetary conditions but unequally felt across class, race, gender, and region -- and both require cooperation, solidarity, and muscular public responses in order to avert the worst effects. In the coming weeks and months, as wildfire and hurricane seasons begin, these crises will in fact intersect. At a policy level, how can the climate justice movement draws out these connections, and build a better, more equal, lower-carbon world once the pandemic recedes? Thea Rionfrancois, co-author of the Green Stimulus letter to Congress, will argue for an approach that aims to do just that.
