Conversations at the Crossroads: Criminal Justice and Poverty

For too many of our citizens, poverty is a sentence handed down from generation to generation. And unfortunately, in America, people who are poor are more vulnerable to discrimination and unjust treatment, especially within our criminal legal system.

Please join us for the second installment of our five-part series, Conversations at the Crossroads: Criminal Justice and Poverty, to learn from experts at the forefront of the battle against systems of injustice.

The topic of the evening will be "The Person." As with any issue that impacts our communities, it is important to understand how a person's environment, experiences, and perceptions impact their own choices. This session will address how the lack of options and choices at the individual level can make it more likely for someone to commit an offense.

Speaker: Senior Field Organizer for the ACLU-PA Campaign for Smart Justice Terrell Thomas and Executive Director of Circles of Greater Pittsburgh Halima Tammy Thompson.

Moderator: Assistant Professor of Social Work at Chatham University Marcus Poindexter.
