Protest Evictions at the 36th District Court in Detroit!

No evictions during this crisis!
All out to protest at the 36th District Court in Detroit Monday, August 17 at 12:30 p.m.!

After the end of a statewide ban on evictions implemented in response to the coronavirus pandemic, Detroit's 36th District Court has announced that it will once again begin conducting eviction cases on Monday, August 17. However the crisis is far from over, as Detroit's alarmingly high rates of COVID-19 infection and unprecedented unemployment numbers show.

It is unacceptable to allow people to be thrown out of their homes during this crisis! We must join together to resist these unjust and inhumane evictions before thousands are displaced during an economic and public health emergency. We demand that all evictions be banned until at least 60 days after the end of the current state of emergency declared by Governor Whitmer.

The oncoming wave of evictions will hit black people and other people of color the hardest and only exacerbate the ongoing injustices of gentrification and displacement. Eviction is just another form of police violence routinely practiced against poor people and people of color in this country. Black lives matter and black homes matter.

Join us Monday, August 17 at 12:30 p.m. at the 36th District Court on 421 Madison in Detroit. We will be protesting as well as distributing literature with information about tenant rights and resources. Please practice social distancing and wear a mask.
