  • 1169

We are meeting at Cicero Town Hall - on the Cermak side to start our peaceful celebration and attention of Black Lives. This movement is a collaboration between community leaders and the community. We will be marching from Cicero to Berwyn. We are sharing the route at the protest.

*Car Caravan update* - those interested in joining us by driving will meet at the Walgreens parking lot (Cicero & Cermak) @ 3pm. We will have a team on foot to direct you throughout the whole protest. We ask that you contrast from other vehicles by making your posters/signs and window markings visible. Drivers, please drive without distractions, give phone responsibilities to your passengers. You will be able to listen to the rally speeches in your car through our live feed.* (route will be disclosed day of, route will be under 2 hours, 3 miles total)

We have three goals:

-We are learning about the Black Lives Matter Movement

-We are honoring the lives of Julian Yaber, Victor Casarez, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, and others who lost their lives too soon.

-Uniting for diversity and peace

What is the Black Lives Matter Movement?

"Four years ago, what is now known as the Black Lives Matter Global Network began to organize. It started out as a chapter-based, member-led organization whose mission was to build local power and to intervene when violence was inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes.

In the years since, we’ve committed to struggling together and to imagining and creating a world free of anti-Blackness, where every Black person has the social, economic, and political power to thrive.

Black Lives Matter began as a call to action in response to state-sanctioned violence and anti-Black racism. Our intention from the very beginning was to connect Black people from all over the world who have a shared desire for justice to act together in their communities. The impetus for that commitment was, and still is, the rampant and deliberate violence inflicted on us by the state."

"Black Lives Matter affirms the lives of Black queer and trans folks, disabled folks, undocumented folks, folks with records, women, and all Black lives along the gender spectrum. Our network centers those who have been marginalized within Black liberation movements."

Black Lives Matter was created by women and LGBTQ comrades.
